How to make a DIY homemade skeleton, corpse – Part 4 “Detailing the Homemade Corpse”.

In part 1 of this series I constructed a super cheap scratch-built skeleton out of everyday ordinary items. In part 2, I added some meat to his bones using expanding foam insulation, paint and then a layer of skin by melting plastic sheeting with a heat gun. Part 3 was all about the skull.

In this video, I added the finishing details to add disgusting realism to the homemade corpse.

I first brushed on a couple coats of light colored wood stain to the plastic sheeting skin until it was the desired color. After the stain dried, I then sprayed several coats of satin polyurethane to both knock down the glossy shine and protect the prop from Mother Nature.

The eyes are made from homemade play-dough (approximately 2 parts flour, 1 part table salt & 1 part water). This could have been done much easier with rubber bouncy balls, marbles, etc. Use your imagination. I painted the eyes a tan color and put a coat of my wife’s clear nail polish on them to give them a wet look.

The foam teeth from the skull mold were hardened by brushing on a couple coats of Elmer’s carpenter glue. The teeth also then got the clear nail polish treatment.

The hair was made from pulling apart a few strands of white rope and sticking it to the tacky polyurethane coating.
